THE TREATMENT OF SYMPTOMATIC PATIENT INFECTED WITH CHLORAMPHENICOL-RESISTANT SALMONELLAE


Abstract
A case of symptomatic patient infected with chlorresistant salmonella typhi (phage type M©û) was presented with detailed description of clisign, treatment we used, and laboratory studies.
Also included was the review on the references concerned.
Although the patient did not respond favorably to ten days of chloramphenicol treatment and the. conditions of patient was worsening, satisfactory therapeutic results was obtained after five days of treatment with ampicillin.
The minimum inhibitory concentration, tested by the tube dilution method, of chloramphenicol for the isolate was 125mcg/ml.
We dared to anticipate with country salrnonellae resistant to chloramphenicol are to be appeared more frequently as the typhoid fever is the most prevalent acute infectious disease here and antibiotics are freely available without prescription and medical supervision.
